Let's Raise Now to Give You a Break

Denise
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump signed the RAISE Family Caregivers Act into law.

The Recognize, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act (S. 1028/H.R. 3759) requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop, maintain and update a strategy to recognize and support family caregivers through the creation of an advisory council. The strategy will recommend actions like:

  • promoting greater adoption of person- and family-centered care in all health and LTSS settings, with the person and the family caregiver (as appropriate) at the center of care teams

  • assessment and service planning (including care transitions and coordination) involving care recipients and family caregivers

  • information, education, training supports, referral, and care coordination

  • respite options

  • financial security and workplace issues

The development of the initial strategy would take up to 18 months.

Earlier this month, I wrote a few blog posts sharing ideas about how we could raise money to help family caregivers. The ideas I shared, unfortunately, can't be implemented immediately. And, the RAISE Act, while a wonderful first step, still keeps us waiting.

So, let's starting raising funds now to help fund breaks for those who care for a family member or friend. We're starting our campaign to raise money by selling a three-pack essential oils kit and donating our profits to our non-profit organization, The Center for Family Caregivers. Initially, our National Caregiving Respite Fund will help family caregivers and former family caregivers attend the Third Annual National Caregiving Conference on November 9 and 10 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare.

Our conference is a one-of-a-kind event — it’s the only conference which features family caregivers and former family caregivers as presenters and panelists. We’re the experts in our caregiving experiences which is why we are the presenters. This year’s conference theme is Our Best Selves. During a time that feels like the worst, how do we stay our best in our relationships, with our health, in our faith, with our finances, in our careers and during caregiving? We’ll look at how caregiving impacts us and how we can best manage that impact.

Your three-pack essential oils kit, an introduction to essential oils from dōTERRA®, includes lavender, lemon and peppermint. Your kit includes ideas for simple uses for your oils so you can begin using them as soon as you open your box. For instance, you can add lemon oil to a spray bottle of water to clean tables and other surfaces. Apply lavender to the temples or back of the neck for a relaxing, calming effect. Massage peppermint oil onto back of neck for a cooling sensation and to relieve feelings of tension.

With your purchase, we'll donate $5 to our National Caregiving Respite Fund. Purchase your kit, below.

Your purchase also includes a PDF, "101 Uses," to help you begin using your three oils once you receive.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by November 1. We’ll keep you posted on our progress and how to receive help through our National Caregiving Respite Fund.

You can then send a donation to our non-profit organization, The Center for Family Caregivers, 310 Busse Highway, MB 143, Park Ridge, IL 60068. We so appreciate your help!

I hope this one will be an easy way for you to feel better and feel inspired that your purchase will help others who care for a family member or friend.
