A Caregiving Comfort: Linger

0

It happened yesterday or last week or last year. The event is in your past but the regret lingers in your present. You worry you didn't do enough or say enough or make enough. Or, it's the opposite; you cringe over the possibility of doing too much, saying too much, making too much.

The lingering thoughts over the right amount keep you in a present state of judgement. You spend time in your today weighed down by a punishing perspective about your past. In essence, your past lives too long.

What to do with what lingers? How do you relieve yourself from the weight?

Turn the worrying and the cringing into a decision. Decide you've learned enough from your past to do better today. Decide to use what you now understand about the past to do differently today. Decide to let the past inform today. Decide you get to take from the past to improve today. Decide the past has completed its journey of helping you change your today. Decide to let the past go.

Linger in today; move into your moments with a deliberate intention to be your best. You've earned your present peace of mind. Linger in peace.
