More Ups than Downs

More Ups than Downs

rose-petals-693570_640Well thankfully the emails I get from the Caregiving site remind me to jump on and connect.

Just a quick update: I got my Mom to the wedding and back. It was hard but my faithful neighbor helped me get her dressed. She has gained some weight in the last six months at the nursing home and it was much harder transferring her in and out of the car. My brother managed to say "thanks" to me for getting her there to see his daughter get married but all I needed was the smiles on her face from getting to see all four of her grandchildren.

She is doing so well at the facility. She has made lots of connections and is participating more every day. I go see her every weekend. My sister was there today when I got there which was good to see. She had a visit yesterday from an old neighbor's daughter. She has much more interaction. Other than a UTI and some trouble sleeping her health has been good. She complains about the food sometimes. I have an aunt at a nearby facility who is very demanding of the staff. I am so thankful that my mom is pleasant to her caregivers. They keep me well informed and the family of other residents also let me know that she is getting along great.

Today she had to tell me a story about an Alzheimer's resident who comes in her room. Most everyone is in a wheelchair but this woman can walk. Well this week she took one of Mom's library books and the nurses were able to find it. I said well maybe she was a big reader and was intrigued by it and just wanted to look at it. We talked about how awful it must be for her to not know where she is.

My husband and I attended the third year of Head and Neck Cancer Survivors banquet and that is always a special time. He is currently having all of his teeth repaired that were damaged from the radiation for his tonsil cancer. We are both doing well and have friends from out of state coming to visit at our vacation condo next weekend.

I am still trying to get my mom's house sold and hoping to hear that my temporary job will be permanent. Definitely more ups than downs. We appreciate life and know how blessed we are.

If you have not seen it advertised I am planning on watching this documentary, Caring for Mom and Dad, on PBS this week.

It's always so great to hear from you, Bootsie.\r\n\r\nDid you watch the documentary, Caring for Mom and Dad? I'd love to know what you thought of it.

HI Bootsie,, it is good to hear from you. I'm glad that hear about the success getting your mom to the wedding and that she is doing well in the facility. My mom lived in on an Alzheimer's unit and when a resident would take something they would say, \"oh she was shopping again\" which I thought was a nice way of putting it.\r\n\r\nThanks so much for sharing the info about the PBS special.

Here's the link on the website, it looks like you can watch it online if you can't find it in your area listings!\r\n\r\n

Thank you for the update! I am so glad the wedding was a successful outing for you both! What a relief for you to have more ups than downs right now. Thank you for the heads up on the PBS show, I will look for it on the website to find the day and time!

Looks like in our area, south Florida, the show premieres on Sunday May 10 at 7pm. Also airs multiple other times, not prime-time.
