My First Blog — Coping with a Sick Spouse

Sharon

This is my first blog. It has been a difficult couple years. My husband was diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy type C in 2006. This is a gradually more and more debilitating neurological disease. In two years, he is at the stage of using a walker. He also no longer works or drives. His speech is slurred and difficult to understand. His small motor skills and balance are very poor. What is most disheartening is the fact that this disease is not curable. It will get progressively worse barring a miracle. Last year, I also was fighting breast cancer. It has been a couple of years of wonderful support from family and church people, and it has been a couple of years of wonderful growing in the Lord. I love my Lord and His wonderful promises in His Word. Sometimes I feel discouraged, impatient, and angry at my husband's disease too, however. How much I miss the kind of relationship we once had, the things we enjoyed doing together, the life we once had. Lord, give me Your strength and the ability to experience Your joy daily.
