No More Palliative Care

0
stethoscope-448614_640Wow, that was quick! Hubby was accepted into the Palliative Care Department (medical help--doctors, nurses, x-ray--that make house calls) in early November. He was dismissed from the program this week.

The nurse and then the doctor explained that since his bed sores have healed (one on his behind and one on his heel) he no longer qualifies. The nurse told me that she was surprised that the one on his heel healed because it was stage 4 and they often do not heal. I remember having heard her say "stage 4". I am glad I didn't know how serious it was.

She also said that we were doing a great job of managing his meds. His blood pressure had stabilized and his weight had stabilized so they could not justify keeping him in the program. ALL that is very positive but I will miss the additional support.

I never did sign the Do Not Resuscitate part of the form. I want them to attempt resuscitation/CPR.

Oh, Michelle, these good news/bad news situations are so hard. It is awesome your husband is doing better but it's awful you lost the support that helped you both do better. Wouldn't it be nice if your husband got better and continued to benefit from the services which helped him get better?\r\n\r\nThanks so much for keeping us posted. I hope today is a good day for you.
