We care at night, on weekends, on holidays. We care every day. We are the health care system.

It's critical that our communities understand our work of caregiving because, hopefully, that will lead to more programs and services to help us.

And, that’s Reason No. 4 in our Five Reasons to Wear Green on April 21. Our work is important.

On April 21, we’re wearing green to bring awareness to the family caregiver experience. According to a 2013 survey from Pew Research Center, 2 out of every 5 adults (40% of the population) care for an adult or child with significant health issues. And, yet, caregiving feels so lonely and isolating you can belief you are the only one.

Our event can connect you to family caregivers in your community and online. Be sure to tell us about your experiences and share your photos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; use #caregreen as your hashtag. If you connect with a stranger wearing green who turns out to be a family caregiver, take a photo. And, we love selfies so be sure to share one. Not on social media? Feel free to email me your photos and I’ll share for you.

Members of Caregiving.com can share photos of their green in our Wear Green Forum.

On April 21, we hope to:

  • Help you start a conversation about your caregiving experience.

  • Connect you with other family caregivers.

  • Help you share support with other family caregivers.

  • Lessen the loneliness of the caregiving experience.

Be sure to join us on Friday, April 21, by wearing green. Because our work is important.
