Say Yes To Saying No

Lynette Whiteman
Lately, I've been pulled in so many different directions!   I'm juggling work, caring for my mom, dealing with an upcoming knee surgery, all while trying to be an attentive wife and mother. I'm just exhausted.

I feel guilty complaining, but I'm also being asked to attend so many extra events due to the holidays.  In a perfect world, I'd have the energy and enthusiasm to go and be jolly.  In reality, I just want to crawl into bed at the end of the day and hibernate for a bit.  The thought of wearing anything other than sweat pants, socializing and making small talk fills me with dread.

On my podcast this week, I speak with Rick Lauber who was a co-caregiver for both his parents with his sisters.  He is also the author of 2 books - "Caregiver's Guide to Canadians" and "The Successful Caregivers Guide."  Rick and I discuss some ways we have found to decrease stress, although we both know there are no easy answers.

This holiday season, I'm going to give myself permission to "Say Yes to Saying No" to things I don't have to attend and/or host.  I hope you also find a way to be kind to yourselves and realize that you don't have to be all things, to all people, all the time!
