Tell Us: What's Been a Good Change?

change I love this kind of change--it's always been good to me.

So much changes because of caregiving that change can become a four-letter word.

Once in awhile, though, a change happens that actually brings positive results. Maybe a change in routine that you dreaded actually frees up time for you. Perhaps a change in home health aides has given you and your caree a different perspective on your day. Maybe a change that affected your day's schedule means you use your time much more efficiently. Perhaps you've changed in a way that just feels right.

What's been a change you dreaded that you later embraced? In our comments section, please share a change that has pleasantly surprised you.

Hi Denise,\r\nA good change for me is re realizing I don't have to say yes to everyone. I don't know when this happened again. I and other caregivers have mentioned on here before that people seem to want to leave kids with you when you are a caregiver because you are home anyway. This proves to me that they don't think we do anything all day as caregivers. I fell into the trap once again last week when my sister asked me to watch her granddaughter.I watched her last summer and slowly the de ja vu moments of why I should say no slowly reappeared. I watched her for two days this time instead of two months last time, and I was on the verge of losing my mind. I told my sister that I had an event I was looking forward to and I couldn't watch her the whole week. I didn't ask was this OK I just gave her the day that i would be bringing my niece back to her. I ended up going to the event that I was going to cancel and I had a very good time. It felt good to do something for myself that I really wanted to do and it was OK to say no. Going to that event refreshed me and I think am better able to care for mom since I got a chance to be away from her for a week end. It's nice to reconnect with yourself every now and then and do something you enjoy.
