Tell Us: What’s Today’s Caregiving Stress (Day 5)?

As you may know, I’ve been collecting data about your caregiving stress, the overlooked epidemic in our communities. During a recent webinar, The Family Caregiver’s Stress, I shared the current results of our ongoing survey and share thoughts about what’s needed to minimize the stress.

We know that caregiving stress can be ongoing. I also believe that caregiver stress is constantly changing, that what stresses you on Monday is replaced by a different stressful situation on Tuesday. To show the constant and changing face of caregiving stress, I’d love for you to tell us about each day’s caregiving stress over a period of five days. Your stories about your day’s caregiving stress will make our data about your caregiving stress that much more compelling.

In our comments section, below, tell us about the stress you’re feeling today.

Today my biggest stress was my husband being a bit ornery and rebellious. for example he didn't want to eat breakfast because he doesn't like to be told what to do. and the list goes on from there. He Acts like he has a real chip on his shoulder and takes it out on me. actually he has every right to have that chip there and I don't blame him for being cross, but it adds to my daily stresses. We are with each other 24/7 and it would be refreshing to have an afternoon to mindlessly go wander around a store or something.

Stress today is its one of those days where \"doubts\" have crept in ... DH's symptoms have increased in it par for the course with this disease? Is he just having a rough week and we can expect a better week soon? Do his meds need to be evaluated and adjusted? Since non of the meds help much, are the doctors wrong about what he has? What if I ride it out with DH this week and something else is going on adding to his rough week (& I've done nothing about it?) I hate the doubts that creep in. My gut says its ok, its one of those rough weeks and will pass soon into a better week. I must trust my gut feeling, but \"what if\" still lingers.

Pressure is on to figure out Medicare for dh; making phone calls to find someone knowledgeable; asking questions; need to make choices after sorting it all out.

my stress today is about the pressure sores on my mom's bottom and her leg. two days ago i stopped using the medicine on the ones she had because there was no sign of them. today when i was helping her shower i noticed they were back. i guess i will have to start checking her daily because she is not telling me when she hurts.

Because I'm really tired today (I'll blame it on a gloomy, rainy day), I could feel the stress of answering or saying the same thing over & over. Tired days like today, it gets old really fast. \r\n*takes deep breath & pours another cup of coffee*
