Where's the Key?

Where's the Key?

key-96233_640I read an an article the Washington Post, "MIT scientists find evidence that Alzheimer’s 'lost memories’ may one day be recoverable." They did an experiment on lab rats that seemed promising but said it would be quite some time before they would be able to apply anything like it to humans. That started me wondering what and where the "key" might be." I was inspired to write:

Where’s the key to my memories?

Can they ever be returned?

Why do I feel that my life and my love

Are being slashed and burned?

Where’s the key to my memories?

Where’s the key to my dreams?

Can I regain my beliefs and my thoughts,

My plans and all of my schemes?

Where’s the key to my memories?

That I’m losing day by day?

Like blue from old jeans

That are torn at the seams

They’re just fading away.

Where’s the key to my memories?

That look of saddest surprise

Will I recognize those who look in my eyes

And tell me they recognize me?

Where’s the key to my memories?

I have to shout out loud.

They recede into darkness

Like the shadows around me

When the sun goes behind a gray cloud.
