Write It Down or Keep It In

imageIt's been a couple hours since I read a FaceBook post about journaling. Write it down or keep it in.

I have never blogged before and haven't the slightest clue if I can find the time to do this. I will try my best as part of self-care.

Normally, I keep things in; stuff my feelings deep inside. I am a caregiver who cares more about others' feelings and needs than I do my own.

There was once I time when I felt strong. Caring for "my" elder was a gift--a beautiful flower to nurture. Two and a half years later, as the only person consistently attending to the flower, I am starting to wilt.

This journal is a safe place for me to put my feelings and recap my caregiving journey.

Cathy, I wasn't sure where to start. I was going to journal privately but then thought insight from others who have \"been there done that\" would be equally valuable. Thanks for \"commenting!\"

Thank you Pegi!

Hi Pushing Petals, and welcome -- I'm a firm believer in writing. I write for a living, but I never though about writing about my caregiving to my own mother until right before her death. Now I'm writing a memoir about that experience. Cathartic!

Welcome Pushing Petals. Writing down your feelings can help. When I bottle mine up, they end up coming out as being irritable and having no patience with others. There is no right or wrong way to journal. Just going with the flow will help you learn more about yourself -- at least it did for me. And this is a place where other caregivers understand. Looking forward to getting to know you.
